Solar saves you time and money. No more messing with the battery charger. No more constantly checking the test panel when you are dry camping. With Nevada’s 300 plus sunny days a year, solar gives you 300 plus days of energy at no cost to you! The right solar panel will provide your batteries with~7 amps of power. In contrast your generator and shore power will only provide ~3.2 amps. So, using your solar for 3 hours and 47 minutes will provide your batteries with as much power as plugging in or running your generator for 8 hours. Batteries freeze in the winter, but did you know a fully charged battery will resist freezing? That means with a solar system you can leave your house batteries in the RV all winter long and when you return not only will they be free from freeze damage, but they will be charged and ready. The right solar system will charge the batteries and power certain 110 volt appliances such as TVs, computers, DVD players, and refrigerators without needed a generator or shore power. I’m sitting at work. As I watch the parade of customers come into the dealership to check out our new and used product, I thought to myself–I should be rving. Where would I go? One of my favorite places is Hope Valley, California. It’s about one and a half hours from Reno, and it is off the grid. By that I mean, no cell service and of course no TV. It’s a perfect place to hike, fish, or just sit by the river and read a good book. The air is crisp and clean and the people you meet (and there are not that many people up there) are nice. Late summer is a great time to RV. Many of the campers are getting their children ready when the school bell rings, the days are still long, and the sun is still strong. So, this weekend, before the football games start head to the mountains and refresh your spirit. Remember, it’s you and me and a Sierra RV.
